Guest Lecturer: Sonya Ravindranath Waddell, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond
CLSG was excited to welcome Sonya Ravindranath Waddell, Director of Regional Economics at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, to Garrett Hall on Thursday, October 25.
Her talk on Thursday presented an overview of the structure, governance, and functions of the Federal Reserve System, as well as a discussion of monetary policy. She also discussed what it is like to work at a Federal Reserve Bank, her work with the Community Development Department, and internships offered by the Fed.
As Director of Regional Economics, she leads a department tasked with providing qualitative and quantitative regional economic information to policymakers and the public. Much of Ms. Waddell’s work involves analyzing economic trends, writing for a variety of publications, and presenting on regional and national economic conditions.
Ms. Waddell joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond’s Research Department in January 2008. Prior to joining the Richmond Fed, she worked as an economist in the Virginia Department of Planning and Budget and at ICF International in Washington, D.C. She received a B.A. from Williams College in 2001 and an M.S. in Applied Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2006.
